John Piper used a variety of techniques in his works.
I like his use of collage, the fact that he painted ruins - bits of buildings, often overlapping so it’s hard to see where one starts and another finishes, and occasional splashes of violent colour.
I’ve concentrated on arches, stained glass window shapes, mismatched buildings and partial bits of masonry, the darkness of war with strong accents of the complementaries orange and blue
Based on a recent workshop, I used tissue paper and pages from an old book to form a collaged background. I then used bleach to discharge, wax crayons as resist, and then used paint, ink, oil pastels on top.
And I haven’t stitched into it. I may do so at a later time.

Et je n’y ai pas cousu. Peut être plus tard.

ReplyDeleteThe first aspect that caught my attention was the electric blue popping out of the image and the balance between that and the orange. It’s a very attractive image and I would love to see it close up to better appreciate all the detail. The subtle boundaries between the different sections I find very effective in creating the final appealing image. Really like it.
Le premier aspect qui a attiré mon attention était le bleu électrique qui sortait de l'image et l'équilibre entre cela et l'orange. C’est une image très attrayante et j’aimerais la voir de près pour mieux apprécier tous les détails. Les frontières subtiles entre les différentes sections que je trouve très efficaces pour créer l'image finale attrayante. Je l'aime vraiment.
J’aime beaucoup cette interprétation de John Piper : on retrouve à la fois du collage et des architectures partiellement détruites. Le mélange des techniques employées rend ton panneau très intéressant et donnent envie d’essayer.
