Frida Kahlo: Ana

Ma réponse à la Frida Kahlo est enfin terminée. Représentant sa vie déchirée et déchiquetée mais aussi son amour caractéristique pour la couleur, c'est audacieux et fort et j'aime ça. J'ai eu du mal à obtenir les fleurs correctement, j'ai fait différentes versions mais je les ai toutes jetées. En demandant à mes collègues quilteuses, on m’a parle de la pâte adhésive cellulosique et j'aime beaucoup l'effet qu'elle crée. Cette pièce était également une bonne occasion d'utiliser certains des tissus commerciaux que j'ai encore en stock.

Et c'est ainsi que ce deuxième tour s'achève pour moi. Je repense à tous les artistes dont nous nous sommes inspirés et au travail que nous avons tous créé et je me sens très chanceux de faire partie de ce groupe.

Je sais qu'un nouveau cycle d'inspiration a maintenant été lancé. J'ai un petit conflit j'espère que vous comprendrez et accepterez ma décision. Je ne suis pas quelqu'un qui peut travailler sur plusieurs pièces en même temps. Je suis maintenant plongé dans un grand projet pour notre exposition l'année prochaine et je ne ferai donc pas les défis SixDames dans le créneau horaire généralement accepté de 3 mois. Je les rejoindrai plus tard dans l'année. J'espère que c'est acceptable.

Et maintenant, je veux dire un immense merci pour toute l'amitié tout au long de cette année, pour toute l'inspiration et le soutien. Je souhaite à chacun de vous et à vos familles un Noël très paisible et mes meilleurs vœux pour une année 2022 très incertaine.

Dear friends,

My response to the Frida Kahlo is, at last, done. Depicting her torn and shredded life but also her characteristic love for colour, it is bold and strong and I like it.  I struggled to get the flowers right, did various versions but threw them all out. In my asking fellow quilters I was  told about cellulose adhesive paste and really like the effect that it created.  This piece was also a good opportunity to use up some of the commercial fabrics I still have laying around.

And so this second round comes to completion for me. I think back to all the artists we have taken as inspiration and the work we all have created and I feel very lucky to be part of this group.

I know a new round of inspiration has now been set in motion. I have a small conflict I hope you will understand and accept my decision.  I am not someone who can work on various pieces at the same time. I am now immersed in a big project for our exhibition next year and so won’t be doing the SixDames challenges in the generally accepted 3 month time slot. I will get to them later in the year. I trust this is acceptable.

And so now I want to say a huge thank you for all the friendship throughout this year, for all the inspiration and support.  I wish each of you and your families a very peaceful Christmas and my very best wishes for the very uncertain 2022.
